Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP has implemented and has been successfully operating for more than 12 years a corporate Environmental Management System. As part of this process, a system of internal auditors was created, methodological documentation was developed for all services and divisions, and appropriate additions were developed to job descriptions of employees, to regulations for branches and departments.
In late this year, the company conducted a recertification audit of its environmental management system for compliance with the requirements of MC ISO 14001:2015 by the qualified certification body TUV NORD. Based on the results of the audit, the environmental management system of Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP was recognized as effective, and a certificate of conformity was issued for the period from November 2021. Thus, Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP confirms that in addition to compliance with the mandatory requirements stipulated by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the company undertakes additional obligations to meet the requirements of international standards, purposefully invests significant financial resources in achieving its environmental goals, and improves production standards.
Previously, for many years, the main problem in the development of licensed fields of Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP was the issues of utilization of large volumes of associated petroleum gas and reducing emissions of pollutants from the combustion of this gas at the capacities of the Zhanazhol gas processing plant available at that time. With the commissioning of three stages of the new Zhanazhol oil and gas processing complex, which was done within the framework of the republican “Map of accelerated industrial and innovative development of Kazakhstan”, our has increased the level of gas processing to 98% of the produced volume since 2015. For example, in 1997, when the Government of Kazakhstan sold shares of the Aktobe company in favor of CNPC, the share of disposal of the associated year was only 23%.
In 2021, the Company continues to implement the “Program for the development of processing of associated and natural gas at the field and production facilities of our company(developed for the period 2020-2022), according to which a final reduction in gas flaring volumes is provided to 104 million. cubic meters per year. This program logically continues the enormous amount of work that was accomplished in past years. Characterizing the scale of economic actions carried out at the fields of Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP to protect the environment, we can name a number of particularly significant projects.
In 2014, a booster compressor station, a deep gas purification unit (DGPU) and an important section of the Zhanazhol – KS-13 gas pipeline were put into operation. This section became a strategic link that made it possible to bring commercial volumes of prepared commercial gas from the Zhanazhol field into the network of the Bukhara-Ural reversible gas pipeline. The implementation of this project made it possible to supply high-quality gas not only to the needs of consumers in the Aktobe region, but also to send it to the southern regions of the country.
The main waste at the production facilities of Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP are drilling waste, oil-contaminated soil, spent alkaline solutions, municipal solid waste and other types. The company’s divisions maintain documented records and control over waste generation, and contractors perform important waste disposal services on a contractual basis. Since 2017, drilling contractors, commissioned by Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP and constructing wells for various purposes, have completely switched to a pitless method of collecting drilling waste, installing concrete and metal containers to collect the resulting residues with subsequent complete disposal of this waste. In 2018, Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP company has built and put into operation its own oil-contaminated soil recycling plant.
Traditionally, high attention is paid to the problem of collecting and sorting household waste. Aktau Oil Field Company, Refinery LLP has its own solid waste landfill with a capacity of 5,000 tons per year. This facility is located in the rotational camp of Zhanazhol. Changes made to the latest edition of the Environmental Code (Articles 300, 301) adjusted the work at the fields for the treatment and management of consumer waste: control over the separate collection of waste was strengthened at the sites, preventing the mixing of their different types, container sites for collecting plastic were organized everywhere and other types of waste with their subsequent transfer to third parties for disposal.
In order to improve the environmental situation and increase the activity of employees in environmental issues, two-month environmental events are held annually, in which all divisions of the Company take part. The ecological two-month event traditionally takes place in two stages and includes a number of activities to improve the environmental situation.
This:
– organizing and carrying out cleaning of areas from debris and old trees, arrangement of access roads and sidewalks;
– putting in order the assigned territories, including rotational camps of Ashchisay and Zhanazhol, zones of the Exploration Block, floodplains of the Atzhaksy, Ashchisay, Zhaiyndy rivers, elimination of spontaneous landfills;
During the two-month ecological period, a large volume of restoration and cleaning work is carried out. Banners, billboards, and environmental billboards are installed and updated. Measures are being taken to plant landscaping and improve the territories of production facilities, sanitary protection zones, repair and paint fences, clean water supply and sewer wells, and carry out biological land reclamation measures.
